The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) has established the Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine Foundation to attract funding for research in three specific areas:
- To further increase the safety and comfort of patients undergoing anaesthesia and sedation.
- To improve the outcomes for critically ill patients following surgery or trauma.
- To improve the treatment of acute pain, cancer pain and persistent non-cancer pain, focusing attention on "pain relief" as a basic human right.
