Dr Ray Hader Trainee Award for Compassion

Awards navigation

The Ray Hader Trainee Award for Compassion is awarded to an ANZCA trainee or new Fellow who is recognised to have made a significant contribution to the welfare of an individual, a group or a system that promotes welfare and compassion, preferentially related to anaesthesia.

The award is named after Dr Ray Hader, a Victorian ANZCA trainee who died of an accidental drug overdose in 1998 after a long struggle with addiction. The award was established in his memory by Dr Hader’s friend, Dr Brandon Carp, to promote a compassionate approach to the welfare of anaesthetists, other colleagues, patients and the community. The winner receives AUD$2000 to be used for training or educational purposes and a certificate.

Nominees must be nominated and seconded by accredited ANZCA trainees resident in any ANZCA training region or ANZCA Fellows within three years of admission to fellowship by examination. The nominator should also supply the details of two additional referees.

The nominator will describe in 1000 words or less how the candidate has made a significant contribution, with the application to be signed by the nominator and seconder.
