NSW ACE Winter meeting

Join us at the Annual NSW ACE meeting, which will be held this year during the Sydney Vivid Festival June 15, 2019.

Once again, the NSW ACE Winter meeting is being held at the Hilton, Sydney during the annual Sydney Vivid Festival. One definition of “vivid” is to produce powerful, feelings or strong, clear images in the mind. In anaesthesia, patient safety is one of area that provokes powerful feelings.
Harm caused by healthcare is not in dispute. The extent, causes and interventions to reduce harm are deeply contentious and emotionally held. In 1954 Beecher and Todd suggested anaesthesia was harming more people than polio. In February 2019 the contribution of perioperative deaths has been suggested to exceed that of TB, Malaria and HIV combined. In between there has been evidence repeatedly showing harm cause by healthcare. In our domain is anaesthetic safety, a model or a myth?

At the “War on error” meeting this year we would like to explore our perceptions and feelings towards patient safety with international and national speakers from the anaesthesia, psychology and patient safety.
The vivid festival is where art, technology and commerce intersect. We hope this meeting is where we intersect to improve the health of our patients.
