Clinical directors meeting

The ANZCA NZ National Committee facilitates an annual meeting for the clinical directors of New Zealand's anaesthesia departments, usually held on the first Friday in September each year. For further information or to make suggestions for future meetings, email the Events Co-ordinator at ANZCA's New Zealand office.

 

NZ Anaesthesia Annual Scientific Meetings (ASM)

The regular NZ Anaesthesia ASM is hosted jointly by ANZCA's NZ National Committee and the NZ Society of Anaesthetists. 

 

2017: A joint NZ Anaesthesia ASM is being held in Rotorua November 8-11, 2017, organised by a committee from Waikato Hospital. See here for more information and here to register.

2018: A joint NZ Anaesthesia ASM will be held in Auckland, November 8-10, 2018, organised by a committee from Counties Manukau Health. 

 

NZ Anaesthesia Research Workshop

The ANZCA NZ National Committee hosts a biennial NZ Anaesthesia Research Workshop to guide investigators (specialists, trainees and research nurses) on how to become involved with and develop quality research. The workshop also acts as a stepping stone for novices seeking guidance and an opportunity to network with research peers.


The next workshop will be held in Auckland on Friday, March 23, 2018. For further information or to register an interest in attending, please email the Events Co-ordinator at ANZCA's New Zealand office.

NZ Anaesthesia Visiting Lectureships 

The NZ Anaesthesia Education Committee (NZAEC) offers an annual NZ Anaesthesia Visiting Lectureship Programme to promote the sharing of knowledge and experience by funding lecturers to present nominated outstanding presentations made in anaesthesia departments and practices to anaesthesia departments in regional centres. 

 

Nominations for the visiting lectureships close on September 30 each year. Expressions of interest from regional hospital departments in hosting a lecturer should also be made by September 30 each year for the following year. See here for more information on the visiting lectureships, for nomination and expression of interest forms, and for the dates lectures are being presented in 2017.

Trainee events

NZ Part Zero Courses

ANZCA hosted a Part Zero Course for new trainees in each of the four rotations in New Zealand in December 2016 just after the start of the new hospital employment year. Courses will be held in each rotation again in December 2017 in preparation for the 2018 hospital employment year.

  • Midlands Rotation - Hamilton, Monday, December 4
  • Central Rotation - Wellington, Wednesday, December 20
  • Southern Rotation - Christchurch, Friday, December 15

NZ Part Three Course

The Part Three Course is for advanced trainees preparing for life as an SMO. See here for information about the 2017 course being held at the Holiday Inn, Auckland Airport on November 30, 2017. This course is hosted by the NZ Society of Anaesthetists with input from ANZCA.
 

Exam preparation courses

Priority is given to applicants who have registered to sit the examination. Participants must also be registered with the College as a trainee. For New Zealand dates and course descriptions, see here.

 

Annual Registrar Meeting (ARM)

The ANZCA NZ National Committee supports the Annual Registrar Meeting held at Auckland City Hospital, usually in early December, with the 2017 ARM being held on Friday, December 1. This trainee-focused day features professional development topics in the morning and an afternoon scientific session for trainees to showcase their audit, research and formal projects. ANZCA provides a prize for the best scientific presentation. Information about the ARM is available from Dr Nicola Broadbent

 

Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises (EMAC) courses

This course provides techniques in the management of anaesthetic emergencies.

Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) courses

This course is an intensive course in the management of injury victims in the first one to two hours following injury. The course emphasises life-saving skills and systematic clinical approach to managing severe trauma. For further information, see here.

 

Introduction to Anaesthesia (Novice) Course

This course is aimed at junior doctors at the beginning of their training in anaesthesia using tutorials and hands on experience on the human-patient simulator.

New Anaesthetic Registrars Crisis Management Course (NARCM)

This course is aimed at senior house officers (SHOs) or registrars recently progressed beyond level 1 supervision and who are about to participate in a call roster with level 4 (out of hospital) supervision.
