SA August ACE evening meeting

Join us in Royston Park on Wednesday August 7, 2019 for the South Australia Anaesthesia Continuing Education (ACE) meeting and ASA SA/NT Regional Committee AGM.

Guest Speaker
We welcome Professor Karen Reynolds, Director of the Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI) and Dean (Research) of the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University who will present “Partnering for successful medtech development”.

Bridging the divide between research and industry, Professor Reynolds is considered one of Australia's leading researchers in biomedical engineering and has been recognised for her outstanding contributions.  She became an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia in 2017, awarded Engineers Australia David Dewhurst award in 2016, South Australian Scientist of the Year 2012, elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences (2011), and awarded Australian Professional Engineer of the Year (2010).  Professor Reynolds holds a number of external roles including Member, Australian Medical Research Advisory Board and Director, Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering Board.

The Medical Device Partnering Program (MDPP) was established in 2008 by Flinders University as an “ideas incubator” connecting partners and de-risking product concepts. The program supports the development of novel medical devices and assistive technologies by facilitating unique collaborations and partnerships between research institutions, companies, healthcare providers, and manufacturers. The MDPP provides a mechanism for prototype development, proof of concept studies, and clinical and market validation. It is tailored to deliver industry driven research outcomes with impact, providing a transparent, facilitated process of engagement, reduced risk in the innovation process, and access to relevant expertise.

In this presentation, Professor Reynolds, Director of the MDPP, will provide insights into the program, the motivations behind it and lessons learned, and will give examples of some of the companies and products it has supported.
