Dr Robert Carpenter
The president of the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists, Robert Carpenter is a
specialist anaesthetist at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, and regularly works in private practice.
A graduate from the University of Otago Medical School in 1982, Rob has trained in anaesthesia in four countries: the UK, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. Rob returned to the anaesthesia department at Waikato Hospital in 1994 working with the Acute and Chronic Pain Service for 10 years, and more recently as a supervisor of training. He became honorary secretary of the society’s Executive Committee at the end of 2008 and has held this position since then. He was elected the 32nd President of the NZSA in August 2010. Rob works regularly with upper gastrointestinal and colorectal surgeons and enjoys the variety and challenge of these disciplines. He loves the team work of an operating theatre and is a firm believer that the time we spend at work should be enjoyable.
