Dr Rodney Mitchell
Rodney Mitchell was appointed to Council as the South Australian
representative in May 2010. Rodney works predominantly in the public
sector in Adelaide with part-time appointments in the Department of
Anaesthesia at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Department of
Intensive Care at the Lyell McEwin Hospital. He also works in private
practice with the Southern Group of Anaesthetic Specialists (Southern
GAS). Rodney spent 10 years working in central Australia, initially as
a district medical officer with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in
Alice Springs, where he developed an interest in Indigenous health
issues and retrieval medicine. During this time he also worked as a GP
anaesthetist. More recently he has been the Director of Anaesthesia at
the Alice Springs Hospital, and continues to visit Alice Springs
regularly as a visiting medical officer, continuing his interest in
rural and remote anaesthesia. He is a supervisor of training at both of
his public hospital appointments. Much of his work in intensive care
involves his role as hospital medical director for the South Australian
Organ Donation Agency.
