Presented by Associate Professor Leonard Webster, Education Technology Development

Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching, Monash University

Date:    Thursday, 25 September 2008

Time:   12:30 – 13:30 pm (30-40 min presentation followed by 20-30 min discussion)

Synopsis

There’s an undeniable need for quality professional learning that addresses the time constraints and location of the busy professional.

Educational Podcasting could become the professional development vehicle of choice for professionals, accessing timely, quality, and helpful professional development sessions on topics of interest according to their own schedule and location. Imagine Professional Development set free of fixed location and as mobile as music with the advantage of automatic subscription.

It’s professional development on demand. However, as with any educational technology, appropriate and evidence based design is critical.

This session will look at some of the evidence, advantages and issues associated with podcasting for professional development including:

• Features of podcasting

• Overview of research on podcasting for educational delivery

• Podcasting design issues (issues associated with their use and maximising impact)

• Implications for professional development (will it change the way we conduct professional development in the knowledge era)
