2019 Emerging Leaders Conference

The college is invested in developing the leadership capabilities of our future leaders. The Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) brings together new fellows from a diverse range of backgrounds, and offers three days of dynamic content presented by anaesthesia and pain medicine leaders.

This year's ELC will be held at the stunning The Club Saujana in Kuala Lumpur directly before our Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Kuala Lumpur. The theme is “Leaders without borders”. Leaders require a broad range of skills to be truly effective, and the sessions planned are designed to enhance these skills, challenge thoughts about leadership.

The ELC is advertised in the September issue of the ANZCA Bulletin. New fellows are encouraged to apply to represent their region or country at the conference. An electronic invitation is also sent to all eligible new fellows and information is sent to the chair of each regional and national committee requesting they promote the conference, and to heads of department, highlighting the value of the conference to their promising young anaesthetists and pain medicine specialists.

Do I qualify to apply?

We are inviting all fellows within the first five* years of their fellowship on Friday October 26, 2018, and who are attending the 2019 ASM, to apply to represent their regional or national committee of ANZCA or FPM at the 2019 ELC.

It is a requirement that applicants must also attend the ASM if selected to attend the ELC. The successful applicants must register to attend the ASM by close of "early-bird". Should the successful applicants not register by close of "early-bird" for the ASM, the ASM and Events Planning Committee will review the applicant’s eligibility and may withdraw the application allowing another representative from their region to attend.

What we're looking for in successful applicants

Special emphasis is placed on fostering current and future leaders in anaesthesia and pain medicine, to encourage new fellow engagement, and to strengthen relationships between new fellows from different regions.

The college is committed to equal opportunity and encourages applications from a broad diversity of new fellows. This includes, gender, race, ethnicity and geography.

The applicant is responsible for the cost of flights traveling to and from the ELC, ASM registration and associated costs.

This conference is limited to fellows to ensure full engagement in the interactive sessions and team building activities. Unfortunately family members are not permitted to attend.

Convenors

The 2019 ELC includes three days of interactive sessions and team building activities, where delegates will mingle with like-minded peers and be introduced to college and industry leaders.

The theme “Leaders without borders” was chosen to highlight the fact that leaders exist at many different strata and in many shapes and forms and we intend to challenge conventional thoughts on leadership. The extra benefit of this year’s conference is that in addition to Australian and New Zealand delegates, it will also involve representation from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Laos and Malaysia thus facilitating engagement and collaboration between new Fellows from various regions.

We warmly invite all new fellows who have received fellowship within the last five* years to apply to attend. The college is committed to equal opportunity and encourages applications from a broad diversity of new fellows. This includes, gender, race, ethnicity and geography.
* Taking into account career disruption

It would be our absolute pleasure to welcome and host delegates at The Club Saujana, with the promise of delivering a fun but thought-provoking event that will hopefully have far- reaching impact on delegates.

Welcome to KL, we can’t wait to see you there!
