Quality and Safety portfolios
The Quality and Safety Committee is made up of six portfolios. The committee provides reviews and comments on draft documentation from a variety of organisations and collaborates on projects, including WHO Safe Surgery Saves Lives, Parenteral Medicines and the Fluid and Lines Labelling Project.
Mortality
The ANZCA Mortality Subcommittee developed as a collaboration between the chairs of established anaesthetic mortality committees in Australian states under the auspices of ANZCA. The group includes the chairs of all established anaesthetic mortality committees in the region, as well representatives of regions whose committees are in the planning or establishment phase, as well as other ANZCA representatives.
The group meets at least once a year and reports to the ANZCA Quality and Safety Committee. The group collaborates with the ANZCA Quality and Safety Committee in the continued promotion and improvement of anaesthetic safety in Australia and New Zealand and publishes triennial reports on anaesthetic mortality in Australia.
Communication/Liaison
The Communication/Liaison portfolio is managed by a member of the Quality and Safety Committee. This portfolio is responsible for organisation of content in the quality and safety section of the ANZCA Bulletin and ANZCA E-Newsletter.
The manager of this portfolio also reviews alerts and warnings related to anaesthesia that are sent to the College, including alerts about related medical devices. These alerts and warnings come from sources such as Fellows of ANZCA and other colleges, manufacturers and health organisations.
