Looking to move North – have you considered Townsville?

Surrounded by a rich hinterland of tropical rainforests and waterfalls, Townsville is also close to historic gold mining towns, the outback, islands, and of course, the Great Barrier Reef.   The city is the administrative centre of North Queensland, with a district population of more than 150,000 and servicing a large surrounding area.  It is the largest city in tropical Australia and a major import/export centre for northern Australia. It has a large University with a Medical School, excellent primary and secondary schools, a vibrant economy and beautiful winter weather. It is a family friendly city.

A private practice in Townsville is looking to recruit an intensive/anaesthetist associate.  An employee arrangement is also available. The position is suitable for an experienced ICU specialist, preferably with JFICM, and willing to do anaesthesia. The position could be negotiated to suit a suitable applicant.

Roma Hospital

Staff Specialist in Anaesthetists, Flying Specialist Service.

South West Health Service Distrist, Queensland Health

The South West Health Service, based at Roma Hospital, covers seven hospitals, one Primary Health Care Unit, an aged care facility and the flying Doctor Specialist Service.

The hospital requires a Specialist Anaesthetist, and a GP Anaesthetist   The positions is responsible for providing quality service and clinically manage services associated with Anaesthetics. Mackay Health Service District

Specialist Intensivist - Mackay Base Hospital

Mackay is an active busy city surrounded by spectacular rain forests. Stunning pristine beaches and off the coast tropical islands to explore. The picturesque landscape includes dramatic coastal scenery, highland waterfalls, gorges and mountains, and lush lowlands which are home to Mackay’s famous sugar plantations.

 
The Mackay Health Service District includes the Mackay Base Hospital, and the hospitals of Prospine,110km to the north, and Sarina Hospital 35km south. Professional support is also provided to the rural hinterland area of the Moranbah Health District Service.   The position of the Staff Specialist may be called upon to provide outreach services to these facilities as negotiated with the Clinical Director of the Unit /Department.

Mt Isa is the largest centre in North West Queensland.  The town was established to support the Mt Isa mine and the surrounding primary industry.

Lismore Base Hospital

Specialist Anaesthetist

Lismore

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Specialist Anaesthetists for the positions of Staff Specialists/ Visiting Medical Officer, Lismore Base Hospital.

The Lismore Base Hospital is the major referral hospital for the far north coast and services a catchment population of 165,000. The Hospital has all major specialties and most sub-specialties represented together with 35 accredited registrars and resident medical officers. There are four accredited anaesthetic registrar position. The teaching of registrars, resident medical officers and medical students is a function of the position. An interest in Intensive Care would be an advantage as the position may include some ICU duties.

The appointment at Lismore Base Hospital also involves sessions at the nearby affiliated hospitals of Casino, Maclean, Byron Bay and Ballina. VMO's working at peripheral hospitals are remunerated at fee-for-service (100% MBS).

Coffs Harbour Health Campus

VMO Anaesthetists 

 

Coffs Harbour Health Campus is currently recruiting for VMO Anaesthetists

The hospital is a 200 bed hospital with 4 operating theatres and surgery covering general and orthopaedic surgery, ENT, urology, gynaecology, ophthalmology and endoscopy. There are approximately 1000 deliveries per year with an epidural rate of less than 10%.

The Area Health Service has an expectation that each anaesthetist will provide a 1:12 commitment to after hours emergency cover, with the remainder of the on-call cover supplemented by locum anaesthetists. On call sessions are paid sessions, and there is a trainee rostered on call at all times. There are currently 9 VMO anaesthetists. The hospital has a 6 bed ICU staffed by intensive care specialists.

There is an opportunity for private practice for interested applicants, with the commissioning of a new operating theatre in the private hospital in April, 2009, and approval for the construction of a free-standing day surgery facility adjacent to the public hospital, construction to be commencing shortly.

There is also the possibility of a conjoint academic appointment with UNSW Rural Clinical School, for interested applicants.

Coffs Harbour is midway between Sydney and Brisbane, with 6 daily flights to Sydney. There are good educational facilities, and outstanding beaches and bushwalking.

Alice Springs Hospital

Intensive Care Staff Specialist

Alice Springs

Applications are invited for the position of Intensive Care Staff Specialist, Alice Springs Hospital.

Alice Springs offers uniquely Australian medical opportunities. Alice is nestled in the beautiful MacDonnell Ranges, outstanding landscape with a clear desert night sky. The hospital serves the people of the land with 80% of the patients being Aboriginal.

The intensive care unit is accredited for 6 months advanced training. The unit has 4 ventilated and 4 high dependency beds serving over 1000 patients, 250 ventilated and about one quarter of these with renal replacement therapy.

You will be one of 3 staff specialists and receive the Northern Territory Critical Care Package. This includes payment for call backs on an hourly basis; a 1:3 on call roster and an education allowance. Further details of the package are available on inquiry.

Gove District Hospital

JCCA Accredited General Practitioner Anaesthetist

Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem Region

Applications are invited from JCCA Accredited General Practitioner Anaesthetist for immediate locum coverage during the next  6months.

Gove District Hospital is situated in the town of Nhulunbuy with a population of1400 residents. It is the regional hospital of 30 beds with services the whole East Arnham Region including 14 remote Aboriginal Communities providing primary, secondary and critical care.

This position will be of interest for someone with previous experience in remote areas and with Aboriginal health matters.  An interest to learn and communicate with and respect for the culture of the local Aboriginal people would be desirable.

Specialist Anaesthetist

Shepparton is seeking A specialist anaesthetist to join 7 Specialists to work either staff or VMO. The
appointee may opt for a Staff Specialist appointment with rights of private practice or an appointment as a Visiting Medical Practitioner.  Opportunities exist to be involved in acute and chronic pain, intensive care and teaching at undergraduate and post graduate levels.  The School of Rural Health, University of Melbourne, has a campus in Shepparton.

Goulburn Valley Health is a public hospital with over 270 beds providing excellent support for medical officers in a rewarding and challenging environment.

Shepparton is a large Regional Centre in central Victoria in a fruit growing and dairying area.  Shepparton is 2 hours drive from Melbourne and a 2 hour drive from the Victorian snow fields.

Applicants must have specialist qualifications such as Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of anaesthetists.
