Looking to move North – have you considered Townsville?

Surrounded by a rich hinterland of tropical rainforests and waterfalls, Townsville is also close to historic gold mining towns, the outback, islands, and of course, the Great Barrier Reef.   The city is the administrative centre of North Queensland, with a district population of more than 150,000 and servicing a large surrounding area.  It is the largest city in tropical Australia and a major import/export centre for northern Australia. It has a large University with a Medical School, excellent primary and secondary schools, a vibrant economy and beautiful winter weather. It is a family friendly city.

A private practice in Townsville is looking to recruit an intensive/anaesthetist associate.  An employee arrangement is also available. The position is suitable for an experienced ICU specialist, preferably with JFICM, and willing to do anaesthesia. The position could be negotiated to suit a suitable applicant.

Roma Hospital

Locum - Staff Specialist in Anaesthetists, Flying Specialist Service.

South West Health Service Distrist, Queensland Health

The South West Health Service, based at Roma Hospital, covers seven hospitals, one Primary Health Care Unit, an aged care facility and the flying Doctor Specialist Service.

Roma is a thriving community of approximately 7500 people 500 kms south west of Brisbane.  The town offers a broad range of facilities and services, public and private schools, child care, recreation facilities and access to the Carnarvon National Park.  Enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere away from the away from the hustle and bustle of city life with the opportunity to spend more quality time with your family.

A Locum is required from mid April for a position in the Flying Services. The position is responsible for providing quality service and clinically manage services associated with Anaesthetics. Applicant must possess an MBBS, or equivalent and be registrable as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Queensland.

Mackay Health Service District

Specialist Intensivist - Mackay Base Hospital

 Mackay is an active busy city surrounded by spectacular rain forests. Stunning pristine beaches and off the coast tropical islands to explore. The picturesque landscape includes dramatic coastal scenery, highland waterfalls, gorges and mountains, and lush lowlands which are home to Mackay’s famous sugar plantations.

 
The Mackay Health Service District includes the Mackay Base Hospital, and the hospitals of Prospine,110km to the north, and Sarina Hospital 35km south. Professional support is also provided to the rural hinterland area of the Moranbah Health District Service.   The position of the Staff Specialist may be called upon to provide outreach services to these facilities as negotiated with the Clinical Director of the Unit /Department.

Coffs Harbour Health Campus

Applications are invited for a Specialist Anaesthetist, VMO or Staff Specialist at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus.

Coffs Harbour is a major coastal resort town famous for its banana industry, fishing, surfing, whale watching, pristine beaches and rain forests.

The hospital is looking for a Specialist Anaesthetist – VMO or Staff Specialist to provide sessional services and share after hours duties seven other anaesthetists.  To commence as soon as possible.  Private practice may be available by negotiation.

Coffs Harbour Health Campus serves a population of approximately 120,000 people.  The hospital is accredited by ANZCA and currently there are 4 trainee positions.   A conjoint appointment with UNSW may be available to an appropriate applicant.  Applicants for the position should hold FANZCA or equivalent.

Lismore Base Hospital

Specialist Anaesthetist

Lismore

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Specialist Anaesthetists for the positions of Staff Specialists/ Visiting Medical Officer, Lismore Base Hospital.

The Lismore Base Hospital is the major referral hospital for the far north coast and services a catchment population of 165,000. The Hospital has all major specialties and most sub-specialties represented together with 35 accredited registrars and resident medical officers. There are four accredited anaesthetic registrar position. The teaching of registrars, resident medical officers and medical students is a function of the position. An interest in Intensive Care would be an advantage as the position may include some ICU duties.

The appointment at Lismore Base Hospital also involves sessions at the nearby affiliated hospitals of Casino, Maclean, Byron Bay and Ballina. VMO's working at peripheral hospitals are remunerated at fee-for-service (100% MBS).

Tamworth Anaesthetic Services, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital

VMO Anaesthetist

Applications are invited for the position of Visting Medical Officer, Anaethetist, Tamworth Anaethetic Services.

Tamworth is the regional referral centre for the North West of New South Wales – a huge area of rolling plains, gum tree covered mountains and meandering rivers and half way between Sydney and Brisbane.

The Anaesthetic Service in Tamworth provides anaesthesia for all surgery conducted at both Tamworth Hospital and Tamara Private Hospital.  This provides an excellent mix for work within both the public and private settings.  The staffing of the service is “family friendly” and as a Visiting Medical Officer there is the opportunity to tailor hours to suit personal circumstances.

Tamworth Hospital has 270 beds and a state-of-the-art 24 hour Emergency Department.  Anaesthetic Registrars rotating to Tamworth come from the Westmead Hospital Training program and Tamworth is teaching hospital for the successful University of Newcastle Batchelor of Medicine degree programme.

Remuneration Package :   

  • As per VMO Service Contract and private patient revenue, plus assistance available for ongoing CME.
  • Assistance with relocation to Tamworth may be negotiated plus initial set up costs.  Private practice opportunities are available.

Alice Springs Hospital

Intensive Care Staff Specialist

Alice Springs

Applications are invited for the position of Intensive Care Staff Specialist, Alice Springs Hospital.

Alice Springs offers uniquely Australian medical opportunities. Alice is nestled in the beautiful MacDonnell Ranges, outstanding landscape with a clear desert night sky. The hospital serves the people of the land with 80% of the patients being Aboriginal.

The intensive care unit is accredited for 6 months advanced training. The unit has 4 ventilated and 4 high dependency beds serving over 1000 patients, 250 ventilated and about one quarter of these with renal replacement therapy.

You will be one of 3 staff specialists and receive the Northern Territory Critical Care Package. This includes payment for call backs on an hourly basis; a 1:3 on call roster and an education allowance. Further details of the package are available on inquiry.

Gove District Hospital

JCCA Accredited General Practitioner Anaesthetist

Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem Region

Gove District Hospital is situated in the town of Nhulunbuy with a population of1400 residents. It is the regional hospital of 30 beds with services the whole East Arnham Region including 14 remote Aboriginal Communities providing primary, secondary and critical care.

This position will be of interest for someone with previous experience in remote areas and with Aboriginal health matters.  An interest to learn and communicate with and respect for the culture of the local Aboriginal people would be desirable.

Albury Wodonga  - Specialist Anaesthetist

  • Two positions
  • Staff Specialist with the right of private practice or Visiting Medical Practicioner
  • All the advantages and infrastructure of a large provinical city combined with a rural life style

Health Albury-Wodonga is seeking two Specialist Anaesthetists to join 15 Specialists to cover work at Wodonga Regional Health Service and Albury Base Hospital, the two hospitals that form Health Albury-Wodonga.  Opportunities are also available to work within the busy private sector that includes Albury-Wodonga Private Hospital, Albury Day Surgery and Insight Clinic.

Appointees may opt for a Staff Specialist appointment with rights of private practice or appointment as a Visiting Medical Practitioner.

The service works from a centralised roster and is supported by Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists trainees from Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Canberra Hospital.  Qualifications in Intensive Care would enable the appointees to participate in the ICU service.

Health Albury-Wodonga is a 280-bed public hospital on two campuses, providing excellent support for medical officers, and a rewarding and challenging environment.  The School of Rural Health, University of New South Wales, has a campus in Albury-Wodonga.
