Annual Report 2007
Medical Education Special Interest Group
- The Medical Education SIG has increased its membership over the last year. We now have 580 members and 2 associate members.
- SIG finances are strong with a profit being made at the recent Combined SIG meeting.
- CME activities
- Annual CME Meeting. Once again this was in combination with Simulation and Skills Training, Welfare of Anaesthetists and Anaesthetists in Management Special Interest Groups. The meeting was held in Noosa from October 12-14th. A general theme of “The Changing Face of Anaesthetic Careers” allowed the SIG’s to look at different aspects of managing our careers. Some of the education topics covered included learning portfolio development, review of miniCEX and ANTS projects and issues around the Overseas Trained Specialist schemes. The conference was well attended with good feedback.
- ANZCA ASM – Melbourne 2007. The Med Ed SIG held a session that was well attended.Executive Committee: Unchanged during 2007 but there is still a position available on the current Executive.
- Future meetings: The two main meetings for the Med Ed SIG are the Sydney ASM, where a session will be held on the topic of “Teaching and learning professionalism” and the Combined SIG meeting which will be held in Queenstown, New Zealand on 29th to 31st August 2008.
Overall the Medical Education SIG tries to provide a forum for Anaesthetists with an interest in education to explore innovative educational concepts, describe research and successful education techniques as well as to provide a forum to allow basic teaching skills to be gained for less experienced colleagues.
The SIG executive would like to acknowledge and thank Gay Hopgood and Juliette Mullumby for assisting in facilitating SIG activities.
Karen Smith
