Annual Report 2006
Medical Education Interest Special Interest Group
The Medical Interest Special Interest Group held it’s annual CME meeting as part of the combined Medical Education, Simulation and Skills Training, Welfare of Anaesthetists and Anaesthetists in Management meeting in Surfers Paradise from September 29 to October 1. Once again, the meeting was well attended and of a high standard. The overseas visiting speakers included Associate Professor Ira Cohen, Associate Professor in Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center, Washington DC, USA and Ronnie Glavin, Scottish Clinical Simulation Centre, Stirling Royal Infirmary, UK. A broad range of educational topics were covered including basic skills teaching, small group teaching, disaster simulation training and maintaining competence. Discussions lead to interesting insights into issues in Anaesthesia training in both the United Kingdom and United States.
The Medical Education SIG continued to be involved in a wide range of CME activities throughout the year, including running a session at the Adelaide ANZCA ASM.
Rod Tayler stood down as Chair after 3 years of enormous effort. The SIG formally thanked him at the Annual General Meeting held at Surfers Paradise on October 1. The SIG Executive elected Karen Smith as the new Chair. Membership remains strong at 541 members including 2 associate members.
The combined SIG meeting is due to be held in Noosa, 12-14 October.
The SIG executive would like to acknowledge and thank Juliette Mullumby for assistance in facilitating SIG activities.
