The CVP SIG Executive takes great pleasure in inviting you to its 11th Biennial Continuing Education Meeting to be held at Hamilton Island Resort from October 2-5, 2011. The program will deliver a host of expert speakers from within the CVP SIG membership and several invited guest speakers.
We will be covering a broad range of topics with a specific focus on the upcoming challenges for the next decade. Several sessions will be structured to include audience participation in order to bring the many expert registrants into the discussion of difficult and controversial issues.
Our keynote speaker this year is Professor Marco Ranucci who is the Head of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Director of Clinical Research at the Istituto Policlinico S.Donato Italy. Professor Ranucci is the current President of the Italian Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists and the Past-President of EACTA. We look forward to welcoming Marco to Australia.
Professor Paul Myles is well known to many of us, he is arguably the most influential anaesthesia researcher in the southern hemisphere, his passion for evidence based medicine and large randomised controlled trials has legitimised the anaesthesia community into mainstream medical/scientific practice. Dr Neville Gibbs is the current Editor of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care and will speak to the meeting once again.
The meeting will encourage Fellows and registrars to submit posters for assessment. A significant prize is on offer and all researchers will have the unique opportunity to discuss their projects with Professor Ranucci, Dr Gibbs and Professor Myles, all of whom have significant experience as journal reviewers. The CVP SIG Executive welcomes posters from all Fellows and in particular from younger Fellows and registrars. It is a great opportunity for Fellows to have their work reviewed by experienced reviewers.
Other invited speakers include Dr Stephen Webb, a cardiothoracic anaesthetist from Papworth, Dr Tony Walton, an interventional cardiologist from Melbourne and Dr Trevor Fayers, a cardiac surgeon from Brisbane.
We plan to have breakout sessions covering perfusion simulation, Fellow training and 3D echocardiography. The last day of the meeting will be devoted to an echocardiography symposium.
It all promises to be a great meeting at a good venue. I look forward to seeing you all in Hamilton Island in October.
Regards,
David Daly
