SIG and CME meeting cancellations: FAQs

What events have been cancelled?

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the following events:

NSW ACE Winter meeting 'Anaesthesia – a bit of everything' – 13 June 2020, Sydney
Queensland ACE meeting 'To infinity and beyond: Hot topics for the 2020s' – 25 July 2020, Brisbane
VIC ACE meeting 'Melbourne winter anaesthetic meeting' – 25-26 July 2020, Melbourne
ACT CME 'Scan and Ski Workshop 2020" - Regional ultrasound scanning workshop for peripheral nerve blocks – 6-8 August, Thredbo
TAS CME Tasmanian Winter Meeting “Links to the future' – 22 August 2020, Barnbougle
 
SIG events
Rural SIG meeting 'Connecting the Islands' – 5-7 June 2020, Airlie Beach
Combined SIG meeting 'Failing to succeed'– 10-12 July 2020, Cairns
Perioperative Medicine SIG meeting 'Perioperative care: All about the team' – 13-15 August 2020, Gold Coast
 
Why has ACE cancelled these events?
More and more hospitals and health services are relying on our fellows, members and trainees to help prepare for and manage the outbreak of COVID-19 and importantly to provide the very best of care for our communities.  There is simply not enough time in these clinicians’ busy days to either convene or attend CME or SIG meetings.  
 
Also recognised and taken into consideration is the unacceptable risk of spreading the infection amongst delegates and the subsequent lengthy quarantine period that would be required, creating an unacceptable risk to our front line clinicians and the capacity of health systems in both Australia and New Zealand.  
 
Please note that some of these meetings will roll over into 2021.  We are working with our convenors and the venues to secure 2021 dates.
 
Am I eligible for a refund? 
All delegates will receive a full refund for the cost of their registration.
You will be refunded for: 
meeting registration
workshops
SGDs
masterclasses 
social activities
optional activities
 
What if I want to transfer to a later date?
If you would like to transfer to an event at a later date, we ask that you wait for your refund and then re-book into the new event once registration has opened.
 
How long will it take to receive my refund?
We are working with our teams to progress this. Your patience is appreciated whist we navigate the challenges of providing refunds on such a large scale.
 
Will I receive a refund on my accommodation? 
If you made your own arrangements for accommodation direct with hotels, please refer to the individual hotel’s cancellation policy.
 
Will my insurance cover the cancellation of my airfares to the events?
Flights and insurance are the responsibility of individual attendees. Please check your insurance cover carefully. Many insurers have exemptions for infectious diseases and pandemics, but the policies are different for each insurer. 
 
What about meetings scheduled to take place post August 2020?
In regard to any ACE meetings post August 2020, including those linked with the ASA / NZSA Combined Scientific Congress (October 16-19, Wellington), we continue to closely monitor advice from the Australian and New Zealand governments and their relevant health authorities. 
 
Also remember to check the ACE website and follow ACE, ANZCA, ASA and NZSA on social media for updates. It is expected a decision about the CSC will be made and communicated by May 2020.
 
What next for other college related events?
In line with many other colleges and societies the college has suspended all face-to-face meetings and events until August 2020 unless otherwise advised. Organisers will be in touch with fellows, trainees and SIMGs impacted by this decision and the college is working on contingencies.
