Welcome
The Trauma and ACCUTE special interest groups will host an inaugural continuing education meeting to be held on Friday May 11 at Parmelia Hilton, Perth, a stunning hotel located a few minutes walk from the CBD. This one day satellite meeting will be held in conjunction with the ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) to be held in Perth from May 12-16, 2012 at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre. This is the first meeting of this subspecialty and will offer an invaluable opportunity to network with fellow special interest group members.
The theme of the meeting is "Mass casualty - burns" and will cover a wide range of topics under this heading. The meeting will see a variety of speakers with significant civilian and/or military experience in the management of burns and mass casualties.
Keynote speakers include Professor Fiona Wood, Director of the Burns Service of Western Australia, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Princess Margaret Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital, and Professor Geoffrey Dobson, Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology and Personal Chair of the Heart Research Laboratory, James Cook University. Local speakers, such as Dr Brian Spain, Director of Anaesthesia Royal Darwin Hospital, and Dr Ken Harrison, Westmead Hospital and CareFlight NSW, will also be present.
Recent events of relevance to the Australian medical community include the Ashmore Reef explosion, 2009 Victorian bushfires and the Bali bombings all of which will be discussed. In addition to lecture style presentations, a number of panel discussions are also being planned.

You will need to secure your booking directly with a hotel. Please be advised, as many people will also be attending the 2012 ANZCA ASM, accommodation will fill fast, ensure you book early to secure your preferred hotel.
