Admission to Fellowship
A detailed overview of admission to Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, by Examination, Election and by granting of Honorary Fellowship.
While there are three ways to become a Fellow of the Faculty (by Training and Examination, by Election, and by granting of Honorary Fellowship), since the admission of the Foundation Fellowship, the majority of Fellows have obtained their Fellowship by examination. The requirements for admission to Fellowship through each of these three routes are described in Regulation 3. Admission to Fellowship of the Faculty.
Fellowship by Examination
Trainees who have completed the training and examination requirements of the Faculty can apply to the Board for admission to Fellowship. Fellowship is awarded by the Faculty to Trainees who have been deemed to have met the requirements described in Regulation 3.2.
Candidates admitted to Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists shall be entitled to place after their names the letters FFPMANZCA.

Fellowship by Election
In accordance with Regulation 3.4, the Board may elect to Fellowship, without examination, persons who have made a notable contribution to the science and practice of pain medicine in Australia or New Zealand.
Medical practitioners who meet this criterion and who are permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand, may apply for election to Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine without examination. Election to Fellowship requires at least three quarters of the Members of the Board present to vote in favour.
Honorary Fellowship
Similarly, in accordance with Regulation 3.3, the Board may confer Honorary Fellowship on distinguished persons who have made a notable contribution to the advancement of science and practice of Pain Medicine in Australia or New Zealand and who are not practicing Pain Medicine in Australia or New Zealand.
Prospective Fellows must be nominated in writing, formally proposed and seconded by two members of the Board. Three-quarters of the Board members must vote in favour.
