Supervisors of Training
The task of the Supervisor of Training (SoT) is both challenging and rewarding. On a broad level SoTs enhance the effectiveness of teaching programs, facilitate effective training for future Pain Medicine specialists and improve their own (and those of others) teaching and administrative skills.
On another (more focused) level, SoTs act as a reservoir of knowledge, clinical and teaching skills, coordinate learning experiences and aim to improve evaluation and feedback to Trainees.
SoTs have an important role and should have a broad understanding of and experience in Faculty activities. They provide liaison between registered Trainees, hospital or institution authorities and the Faculty regarding matters related to training.
A Supervisor of Training Support Kit (
1.1 MB) has been developed to assist SOTs with their challenging tasks. The Kit has largely been developed from feedback provided by SOTs about issues they have encountered and includes information on the specialty of Pain Medicine, a description of SOT duties, a SOT Manual and useful educational resources.
Faculty Professional Document PM5 : Policy for Supervisors of Training in Pain Medicine outlines the Supervisor of Training's role and responsibilities.
