Research

At present, we are a young Faculty with small numbers (approximately 200 Fellows and 40 Trainees) of whom only a very small percentage actively undertake high quality Pain Research.

It is important for the future of our Faculty to promote and champion Pain research and to be setting our own priorities in terms of the direction of such research. To achieve such objectives requires a critical mass of Fellows interested and active in research.

The Board sees research as a “core business” of the FPM and agrees on the need to “foster a culture of research” within the Faculty. Hence the development of the FPM Research Committee. Since its inception in February 2004, the FPM Research Committee has been addressing a number of important issues including roles, linkages, infrastructure and various specific projects (such as a Pain Medicine Prize, PhD Scholarship, and publication of FPM ASM abstracts).

The Research Committee of the FPM Board plans to develop a suitable framework to address a number of fundamental issues and a framework under consideration can be viewed on the Faculty Website.

The ideas and thoughts of interested Fellows and trainees on any of the issues in the document are gratefully sought.
