Assessor requests
If you wish to undertake training that varies from the standard Faculty of Pain Medicine training program or if you have previous training experience that can be credited as part of your FPM training, you may request prospective or retrospective approval through the Faculty Assessor.
Prospective approval requests
Structured period of training
Trainees must have their structured period of training in a Faculty-accredited pain medicine program prospectively approved (see Regulation 4.2.4). The period of structured training will commence when the trainee has completed registration with the faculty.
Part-time training
Trainees wishing to undertake part-time training may apply to have this training time approved (see Regulation 4.4).
Interruptions to training (including parental leave)
Interrupted training may be considered upon application to the Assessor (see Regulation 4.5.) Any period of leave longer than normal leave is considered interrupted training.
Retrospective approval requests
Recognition of previous pain medicine experience
In addition to the structured period of training in a Faculty-accredited pain medicine program, one further year of experience of direct relevance to the specialty of pain medicine is required. Up to 12 months retrospective approval may be granted, but approval is not automatic and depends on the relevance of that experience to pain medicine. See Regulation 4.2.5.
Applications for recognition of other experience attract the annual training fee on a pro-rata basis for the period of time for which such accreditation is approved.
