2020 ANZCA ASM cancelled

ANZCA has cancelled its Perth Annual Scientific Meeting in May as well as several associated meetings due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Perth, from 1-5 May as well as the preceding Emerging Leaders Conference, FPM Symposium and Perioperative Medicine Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting.

The risks of spreading the infection among a large number of delegates at an ASM and satellite meetings and the subsequent lengthy quarantine period creates an unacceptable risk to the health systems in both countries. More and more hospitals and networks require our fellows and trainees to stay in hospitals to help manage the outbreak and care for our communities.

ANZCA’s in-house Events team is now working on providing information to all those who had registered for the ASM and the satellite events and have prepared a series of frequently asked questions.

Those who have already registered will receive further correspondence along with information on the process of refunds for all meetings. We ask for your patience as we work through the complexities of cancelling the meetings and please be assured that our professional team has a comprehensive and detailed plan to manage all contingencies. In addition to this communication, the events team will also be contacting, over the next weeks, all people involved with the meetings, ranging from our presenters though to our suppliers.

The best way to make contact with the Events team at present is to email us.

We would like to acknowledge the enormous amount of work done by the Perth Regional Organising Committee and the disappointment that they must be feeling. This is also true for the organisers of the Emerging Leaders Conference, the FPM Symposium and the Perioperative Medicine SIG meeting. Know that your work is greatly valued.
