Women and Medicine Symposium

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2019, our Geoffrey Kaye Museum is holding a one day history symposium on women and medicine.

Presenters will explore the historically fraught relationship between women and medicine, both as patients and practitioners. Topics will include:

  • Famous women working in the area of non-pharmacological obstetric pain relief.

  • Reproductive crime in the state of Victoria.

  • Mental health and asylums.

  • Anatomical collections.

  • The difficulties for early women entering the medical profession, and much, much more.

The symposium is on Friday, March 8 at the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, from 10am to 5pm.

Tickets are $50 and are available here. Lunch and refreshments are included.

Participants in the ANZCA and FPM Continuing Professional Development Program can claim attendance under the Knowledge and Skills category “learning sessions” for one credit per hour.
