IV iron for Treatment of Anaemia before Cardiac Surgery

Study design

This randomised double-blind, controlled phase IV trial will compare the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of perioperative IV iron with placebo in patients with anaemia before elective cardiac surgery

 

Primary outcome

Days alive and out of hospital from surgery to 30 days following operation.

 

Secondary outcome

Includes blood transfusions, perioperative complications, hospital stay, mortality, quality of life and disability-free survival.

 

Study duration

Four years.

 

Study size

1000 patients.
