Resource of the Month

ANZCA Special Book Collections

After a long process, the ANZCA library has collected and catalogued three large collections of historical books.  With an increased interest from the membership in anaesthesia history, library users can now easily search the ANZCA Library catalogue for particular items or browse the following collections.

The Gwen Wilson Collection holds about 70 items donated to ANZCA by Dr Gwen Wilson on a unique range of topics, reflecting Dr Wilson's interests and research.

The Geoffrey Kaye Collection contains over 100 items, some published over 100 years ago, which were part of Dr Geoffrey Kaye's private collection.

A General Historical Collection collates over 270 older publications from a wide variety of sources, including many early editions of core anaesthesia texts.

Library Services

All Library services are offered free of charge to College Fellows and Trainees. Special arrangements can be made for other interested individuals.


Book and Video Loans

Books and videos are lent for a period of three weeks and may be renewed upon request. 

Postage - Within Australia, books and videos are forwarded by courier with a return pre-paid courier satchel. Arrangements can be made for overseas College Members

A core collection of anaesthetic textbooks is available for loan from the New Zealand office of the college. 


Journal Articles

The College subscribes to many medical Journals. Copies of articles are available upon request.

It is recommended that library users fill in and sign the User Agreement for Document Supply Requests made via Electronic Mail.  An ORIGINAL copy of this agreement must be mailed to the Library to be effective.

One or Two Articles? - If you require only a couple of articles, please contact the Library. The requested articles will be forwarded as quickly as possible.

Many Articles? - If you require several articles, please print and sign the DPA (Declaration for Photocopy of Articles) (pdf icon 209 kB) and fax it with the list of required articles to 03 8517 5381 or 03 9510 6786.


Literature Searches

The librarian can assist you in searching our specialized databases.  Alternatively contact the Library if you would like the librarian to conduct a literature search on your behalf.


Inter-Library Loan

Items not available from the College library can be obtained on inter-library loan. Contact the Library for further information.
