Regulation 4
EXAMINATION SUBCOMMITTEES AND COURTS
Note: Dates in italics flag the dates of recent changes to the regulation, e.g., 10/04 indicates a change made to the following paragraph in October 2004.
4.1 There shall be Subcommittees for the Primary Examination and Final Examinations. These Subcommittees shall be appointed at the October Council Meeting and function from the beginning of the subsequent year. They shall be responsible to the Council through the Chair of the Education and Training Committee.

4.2 The Subcommittee for the Primary Examination shall consist of a Chair, Deputy Chair, Chair of Examinations, Chair of the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Fellowship Examination, Chair of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Examination, a Council representative and four other members, with the power to co-opt.
4.3 The Subcommittee for the Final Examinations shall consist of a Chair, Deputy Chair, Chair of Examinations, a Council representative and eight members, with the power to co-opt.
4.4 The tenure of office of the Chairs of the Primary and Final Examination Subcommittees should not normally exceed three years.
4.5 There shall be a Panel of Examiners which shall be appointed by the Council from time to time upon the advice of the Chair of Examinations.
4.6 The tenure of appointment of an Examiner shall be three years and shall date from 1st January following the appointment. An Examiner will be eligible for reappointment for three further three year terms and such reappointments shall be made at the October Council Meeting.

4.7 An Examiner who has served 12 years, is not an anaesthetist and examines for the Primary will be eligible for reappointment each year at the June Council Meeting.
4.8 Any person who has been an Examiner may fill a vacancy at the discretion of the Chair of the appropriate Examination Subcommittee or nominee.
4.9 Courts of Examiners will be appointed for individual Examinations by the Chair of the appropriate Subcommittee or nominee.
4.10 All proceedings and reports of any Committee shall be confidential and privileged.
