5.    ACADEMIC COSTUME

 

5.1    For Fellows, a black stuff gown with looped sleeves, facings 35 mm gold, 35 mm gap, 35 mm gold, the gold bands to join at the shoulder line and be continued on as a 70 mm band around the back of the yoke. A 35 mm gold band around the cuff of the sleeve. Fellows attending an academic function convened by an organisation other than ANZCA may be required to wear a hat. In such instances, Fellows are permitted to wear a black trencher cap.

 

5.2    For members of ANZCA Council, as for Fellows but having a 35 mm gold band around the hem of the gown and each sleeve gathered with six gold silk faced buttons tied together in three pairs with braided gold silk cord. Upon retirement from ANZCA Council, a patch featuring the ANZCA coat of arms and crest is provided, to be displayed in the centre of the left sleeve with the top of the patch 17 cm down from the end of the shoulder pleats.

5.3    For the president, a black gown made from pure wool in the style of a university chancellor's gown faced with red velvet 80 mm at the bottom and tapering to 50 mm at the yoke, trimmed with 35 mm of gold bullion braid on each side of the velvet and continued around the sailor collar as a border, the remainder of the yoke being black velvet. The sleeves are trimmed with 25 mm of gold bullion braid around the arm-hole, and one bar of red velvet 50 mm in width at the sleeve-head edged with 25 mm of gold bullion braid. Around the bottom of the sleeves is one bar of 35 mm of gold bullion braid. A tab 10 cm x 5cm made from 35 mm of gold bullion is placed on each front facing level with the sleeve bars.

 

5.4    For the vice-president, a black gown made from pure wool in the style of a university chancellor's gown, faced with black velvet 80 mm, at the bottom and tapering to 50 mm at the yoke, trimmed with 35 mm of gold bullion braid on each side of the velvet and continued around the sailor collar as a border. The sleeves are trimmed with 25 mm of gold bullion braid around the arm-hole, one bar of black velvet 50 mm in width at the sleeve-head edged with 25 mm of gold bullion braid. Around the bottom of the sleeves is one bar of 35 mm of gold bullion braid. A tab 10 cm x 5 cm made from 35 mm of gold bullion braid is placed on each front facing level with the sleeve bars.

 

5.5    For the chief executive officer, the ANZCA gown or his or her own academic dress. The ANZCA gown is a black gown made in pure wool with front facings and yoke in black velvet, trimmed with 12.5 mm gold oak-leaf braid. It features one stiffened tab of office in gold silk 7.5 cm x 3.5 cm surrounded with 12.5 mm gold oak-leaf braid on each facing. The sleeves are closed and gathered, and held by three strips of gold braid and gold buttons.
