The Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Medal was established in 1979 and was adopted by the College following its incorporation.
- 12.1 This award is made at the discretion of the Council of the College in
- 6/99 recognition of major contributions to the status of anaesthesia, intensive care, pain medicine or related specialties.
- 12.2 Nominations may be considered at any Council Meeting and shall be made in writing by two members of the Council.
- 12.3 Nominations must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae, and be submitted at least 30 days prior to the Council Meeting.
- 12.4 Voting on the nominations shall be by secret ballot.
- 12.5 No award shall be made unless at least three quarters of the voting members of the Council present and voting vote in favour with abstentions not being counted in the total number of votes.

- 12.6 Nominations rejected by the Council may be reconsidered at a subsequent meeting but must be formally proposed and seconded again.
