New drug
A new drug has just been approved for use in Australia. SITAGLIPTIN (Januvia) is an oral drug for type 2 Diabetes mellitus. It is a new class of drug, a dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP-4) inhibitor. Sitagliptin is an 'incretin enhancer' that increases the levels of active incretin by inhibiting their metabolism by DPP-4, thus prolonging their effect in stimulating insulin release and decreasing glucagon secretion.

Trainees

The promotion of education in Anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine is one of the three mainanaesthetist-machine objectives of the College. The ANZCA Anaesthesia Training Program is the main conduit for providing specialist training in anaesthesia.

Supervised training is offered in ANZCA Approved Training sites in Australia, New Zealand and the Affiliated Training Regions of Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Areas of interest to the ANZCA Trainee include:

  • Assessor Requests – designed to provide flexibility to the core Anaesthesia Training Program. Trainees can request prospective or retrospective approval for deferral of the training program or for accreditation of prior anaesthesia experience, e.g., part-time training, overseas training, maternity or parental leave.
  • Trainee Forms
  • 2008 Training Fees
  • Examination venues and critical dates
  • Courses
  • Hospital Accreditation – Approved Hospital departments accredited by the College to provide supervised training experience in anaesthesia which complies with the requirements of the College.
  • ANZCA Supervisory Roles – brief descriptions of ANZCA representatives who assist Trainees in the course of their training. These include Supervisors of Training, Module Supervisors, Regional Education Officers, and Formal Project Officers.
