Introduction
The purpose of these learning objectives is threefold:
-
A guide to Trainees for learning
-
A guide to tutors and teachers
-
A guide to examiners
This will ensure that Trainees, tutors and examiners can all work from a common base. It is important to recognise that these learning objectives, while attempting to circumscribe the subject matter, are not designed to discourage trainees from pursuing greater depth or understanding.
Throughout the learning objectives, specific wording has been used under the required abilities to indicate the level of knowledge and understanding expected, and a glossary of these terms is provided:
Outline: Give the main features or general principles Define: Give the precise meaning Describe: Give a detailed account of Explain: Make plain, interpret, and account for
Recommended Texts
The recommended texts cover the subject matter; however, where there is a deficiency in these texts on specific areas other references are included. The material contained in the references provides a clear indication of the level of understanding required and the boundaries of the subject matter.
Trainees and tutors are encouraged to refer to the learning objectives as they form the basis for training and the examination. It is recognised that with constant changes in physiology and pharmacology this text will need to be regularly reviewed and revised as appropriate.
