ADMISSION TO FELLOWSHIP OF THE COLLEGE

6.1 Honorary Fellowship
Pursuant to Article 21
6.1.1 Honorary Fellowship of the College shall not be conferred "in absentia".6.1.2 Nominations for the award of Honorary Fellowship of the College may be considered at any Council Meeting.
6.1.3 All nominations shall be made in writing, formally proposed and seconded by two members of the Council, and submitted to the CEO at least 30 days before the Council Meeting.
6.1.4 Each nomination shall be accompanied by a curriculum vitae.
6.1.5 The Council will vote on the nomination by secret ballot.
6.1.6 No award shall be made unless three quarters of the members of the Council present vote in favour.
6.1.7 Nominations rejected by the Council may be reconsidered if proposed and seconded at a subsequent Council Meeting.
6.2 ADMISSION TO FELLOWSHIP BY ELECTION
Pursuant to Article 22
Nominations for election to Fellowship in this category may be considered at any Council Meeting.
6.2.1 All nominations shall be made in writing, formally proposed and seconded by two members of the Council and submitted to the CEOat least 60 days before the Council Meeting.
6.2.2 Each nomination shall be accompanied by a curriculum vitae.
6.2.3 The Council will vote on the nomination by secret ballot.
6.2.4 No nominee shall be elected to Fellowship unless three quarters of the members of the Council present vote in favour.
6.2.5 Nominations rejected by the Council may be reconsidered if proposed and seconded at a subsequent Council Meeting.
6.2.6 The Council at its discretion may remit the entry fee and annual subscription of any Fellow admitted under this Regulation.
6.3 ADMISSION TO FELLOWSHIP BY ELECTION
Pursuant to Article 23.
The Council of the College may consider applications from the following medical practitioners who are permanent residents in Australia or New Zealand for election to Fellowship of the College without examination:
6.3.1 a) A Chair or full Professor of Anaesthesia employed full-time by a recognised University, or a full-time Head or Director of a Department of Anaesthesia of a hospital or clinical school that normally has university-appointed academics on its staff and is recognised by Council as a major teaching institution, provided that the applicant holds a qualification in anaesthesia acceptable to Council and is a practising clinical anaesthetist. The criteria for considering such applications shall be determined by Council.
Regulations 6.3.1 b) and 6.3.1 c) were suspended on the 23rd February 2008 pending review of the College's OTS processes.
6.3.1 d) In exceptional cases, medical practitioners who have made a significant contribution to College activities and/or to anaesthesia and related disciplines in Australia or New Zealand.
NOTE: Each application shall be considered under only one clause of 6.3.1. Any person invited to accept Fellowship by election must notify the CEO of acceptance and proceed with application and payment of prescribed fees within three months of invitation, as specified under 6.3.2 and 6.3.8.
04/076.3.2 Applications for admission to Fellowship under these Regulations shall be on the prescribed form of application and signed by the applicant. It must be supported by two Fellows of the College, of whom one must be the Head of a Department, where relevant, plus a senior Administrative Officer of the institution where most clinical time is spent. No other form of recommendation is permitted.
6.3.3 Applications for election to Fellowship under Regulation 6.3.1 may be considered at any meeting of the Council. Applications are normally to be submitted to the CEO 60 days prior to the meeting.
12/016.3.4 Separate lists of the applications for Fellowship under each Regulation, containing the information required on the prescribed forms, shall be sent to each Member of the Council at least fourteen days before the day of the Council Meeting.
6.3.5 The Council will vote on applications by secret ballot.
6.3.6 No applicant shall be elected to Fellowship unless three quarters of the Members of the Council present vote in favour.
6.3.7 If approved, the applicant shall be informed by letter and invited to accept Fellowship by election.
6.3.8 Those admitted to Fellowship by election shall pay the entrance fee as prescribed by the Council in addition to the annual subscription.
6.3.9 Fellowship will not normally be conferred in absentia.
6.3.10 Applications rejected by the Council may be reconsidered if formally proposed and seconded at a subsequent Council Meeting.

6.4 ADMISSION TO FELLOWSHIP BY TRAINING AND EXAMINATION
6.4.1 The Council of the College may admit to Fellowship of the College candidates who have completed the training and examination requirements of the College.
2/036.4.2 Candidates for admission to Fellowship of the College by training and examination shall fulfill the examination requirements of the Council of the College and complete a prescribed period of training as detailed in Regulation 15.
6.4.3 The Council of the College shall define the period of training required by all candidates and approve the nature of the tests to be made by the Committees for the Primary and Final Examinations for the award of Fellowship of the College.
6.4.4 The Committees for the Primary and Final Examinations shall make their reports and recommendations to the Council of the College.
6.4.5 Candidates approved by the Court of Examiners at a Final Examination are required, on completion of the prescribed period of training, to forward to the CEO an application for admission to Fellowship.
6.4.6 The application for admission to Fellowship must be on the prescribed form and contain such information as the Council may require.
6.4.7 Admission to Fellowship will only be recommended by the Council when all relevant Regulations have been satisfied.
6.4.8 Every application shall contain an agreement by the candidate that all communications made by the Council of the College or any of its officers and all answers to any questionnaire made by any referee or any Fellow of the College shall for all purposes be deemed a privileged communication.
6.4.9 Having received and considered all relevant materials and communications in reference to an application for Fellowship of the College, the Council may
2/97 either admit the candidate to Fellowship or reject his or her application or suspend final determination for any period it thinks fit.
6.5 The Council of the College shall not be required to assign any reasons for the admission or rejection of a candidate or suspension of its decision upon a candidate's application and the decision of the Council of the College on any application shall be final and not subject to appeal.
6.6 Each applicant shall sign the following pledge which is binding upon admission to Fellowship.
"I hereby pledge myself as a condition of Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists to obey the Memorandum and Articles of Association and to abide by the Regulations of the College."
6.7 All proceedings in relation to the admission to Fellowship shall be confidential and privileged.
6.8 Candidates admitted to Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists shall be entitled to place after their names the letters F.A.N.Z.C.A.
6.9 The Diploma of Fellowship of the College shall be in the following form:
