Fellowship
Upon completing all requirements of the ANZCA training program, medical practitioners may apply for fellowship of the College. Trainees admitted to fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists shall be entitled to place FANZCA after their names.
Most trainees obtain their fellowship by examination, however there are three ways to become a Fellow. Further details can be found in Regulation 6.
- Fellowship by examination.
- Fellowship by election.
- Honorary fellowship.
Admission to fellowship by examination
Trainees who have completed the training and examination requirements described in Regulation 6.5 (and summarised below) can apply to the ANZCA Council for admission to fellowship.
Applications for admission to fellowship are considered at scheduled council meetings or by electronic voting between meetings. Fellowship applications can be submitted up to four weeks before the anticipated completion date for all training requirements, provided there is a formal statement from the supervisor of training (an email with the subject name "Fellowship" sent to training@anzca.edu.au is acceptable) confirming that the trainee will remain in the post until the stated final date.
Under no circumstances should applications be submitted any earlier than four weeks prior to the anticipated date of completion of training requirements as the final documentation cannot validly be signed off by the trainee and supervisor of training. Earlier submissions cannot be processed.
Leave can be taken during those four weeks, but such leave should be advised to the College along with the fellowship application. Total leave during advanced training must remain within the maximum permitted (24 weeks) if advanced training is not to be prolonged beyond 156 weeks.
