Overview
A key function of the College is the preparation and distribution of Professional Documents, which set down the formal, Council-approved guidelines for practice in a wide range of circumstances.
Hospitals require these documents to be readily accessible to relevant staff at all times for reference as required. The Professional Documents also are referred to by Government and other bodies, especially in the process of accreditation of health care facilities.
The Professional Documents cover technical aspects of anaesthesia, as well as such basic matters as the duties of an anaesthetist, quality assurance, minimum standards for the transport of the critically ill, and providing information to patients about anaesthesia. Professional Documents are added to, and updated, according to changes in practice, technology and knowledge.
The list of current Professional Documents is given below. Individual documents can be obtained by clicking on the required document.
