Workplace-based assessments
The Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) for International Medical Graduate Specialists (IMGS) is one component of assessment for those IMGS assessed at the Structured Interview as being Substantially Comparable (SC) with a specialist who holds Fellowship of ANZCA. The IMGS WBA will normally take place in the final 3 months of the required period of Clinical Practice Assessment (CPA).
The IMGS WBA is performed by two Fellows of ANZCA, at least one of whom will be from within the applicant's region of practice. The assessment aims to assess the applicant’s clinical skills and specialist attributes.
The objective of the WBA is: ‘To assess professional performance against a standard that would be reasonably expected of an anaesthetist with equivalent training and experience’
The IMGS WBA will include:
- a preliminary interview
- an assessment of anaesthesia records
- observation of clinical practice
- multi-source staff interviews
- case-based discussions
- an end-of-assessment interview
