Clinical training outside of clinical anaesthesia, intensive care medicine and pain medicine
Requests of this type will be considered under Regulation 15.5.2.3.
15.5.2.3 An optional training component in related disciplines and research of up to 24 months in any combination of:
- Intensive care medicine in a unit approved by Council (other than in 15.5.2.2).
- Neonatal intensive care in a unit approved by Council.
- Pain medicine.
- Clinical medicine.
- Emergency medicine.
- A formal research program of at least six months duration.
- Any other training experience that is relevant to the practice of anaesthesia.
To have this training prospectively approved please apply to the Director of Professional Affairs Assessor with signed original documentary evidence, on hospital letterhead, from the relevent department, confirming your appointment.
The letter should document the following:
- Position description/s including title (for example, SHO, registrar), type of experience (for example, anaesthesia, intensive care medicine).
- Start date and end date (note minimum time period of three months full-time equivalent).
- A statement that the position is in a hospital department approved to provide supervised anaesthesia training by the appropriate authority or, in the case of non-anaesthesia experience, that it is recognised by the relevant College or training body as appropriate for specialist training.
Please forward this documentation along with a covering letter from yourself requesting overseas training approval. Upon receipt, your application shall be forwarded to the Director of Professional Affairs Assessor for consideration. You will be notified of the decision accordingly.
