4. ANZCA Training Program – Curriculum Review
The first meeting of the ANZCA Curriculum Review Working Group (CRWG) was held at ANZCA House last Thursday (14 August), and marked the beginning of this latest review of the FANZCA Training Programme. The President and members of the Executive started the day with an official welcome, after which the workshop attendees were given an overview of the curriculum review process by the EDU and began work to agree a framework and set of principles for the process. The outcomes of the workshop were:
· Agreement of the use of the CanMEDS-2005 framework for the revised curriculum.
· Development of principles for the review process, in particular the need for:
- o alignment of teaching, learning and assessment within the curriculum;
- o clear and feasible organization of the curriculum (especially in regards to selection, clinical experience and progression issues);
- o a system of on-going program evaluation and improvement for the training program; and
- o a system of clinical teacher development and support available to all clinical teachers (i.e. available to all Fellows working with trainees, not just those in specific ANZCA supervisory roles).
· Agreement on the structure for the submissions process.
The next step in the Curriculum Review will be a submissions process to canvass opinions of all stakeholders (including trainees); an open invitation for which is anticipated to be announced in September.
