ANZCA Trainee Newsletter - February 2008

  1. Have you paid your 2008 Training Fees?

The 2008 Training Fees were due on 31 January 2008 for all trainees in Australia, New Zealand and all other countries in non-ANZCA regions, (This does not apply to trainees in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia whose training fees are due on 30 June 2008).

If you are in the former group and have not yet paid your fees please do so as soon as possible.  The Training Fee form can be obtained from the website at http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/trainee-forms/atf-2008-annual-training-fee-form.

Thank you to all trainees who have paid their Annual Training Fee.

A reminder also that beginning in 2008, the College introduced a Deferred Training Fee for those trainees not in supervised training or who are ‘taking a break’ from training.  This fee maintains registration and ensures Trainees’ access to the use of the Library and protected areas of the new website, as well as the ongoing receipt of the ANZCA Bulletin and other communications.

The 2008 Training Fees are as follows:

Australia & Countries in Non ANZCA Regions

New Zealand

Trainees in Approved Training

AUD 1,400.00

NZD 1,750.00

Trainees not in Approved Training (Deferred Training Fee)

AUD 400.00

NZD 500.00

Withdrawn from the program

Please notify the College if you have withdrawn from the Training Program

New Zealand fees should be paid directly to the New Zealand Office.  Details are provided on the 2008 Training Form.

For more information on the changes to the Annual Training Fee please refer to: http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/2008-training-fees.html

  1. Module 2 Completion

Completion of on-line Module 2 ‘Professional Attributes’ is a requirement of Basic Training and thus should be completed within the first 24 months of accredited training (this includes retrospectively accredited training time).

If you have not completed Module 2 and are nearing the end of Basic Training please do so promptly.

Information relating to Module 2 can be found at:

http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/atp/curriculum/module-2

For your information please refer to this very useful flowchart of the ANZCA Training Program:

  1. Approved Vocational Training Forms

It has come to the Department’s attention that Trainees are submitting Approved Vocational Training Forms before completion of a training position and/or the Hospital Employment Year.

Training can not be accredited until the position is completed.  Forms received before the completion of the training period will not be processed and will need to be resubmitted when the training period has been completed.

As stated in Regulations 15.6.1 & 15.7.1 (2007) ‘Trainees must submit the relevant Approved Vocational Training Form within three months of completing each training year.  A Trainee who fails, without reasonable excuse, to submit the form on time, is disqualified from Approved Training from the date that the form was due to the date the form was received by the College.’

A Supervisor(s) of Training as required to sign the form for each hospital rotation in which training is undertaken during a training year.

Trainees are required to forward the original Approved Vocational Training Form and retain a copy for their records.

These forms can be found at:

http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/trainee-forms/approved-vocational-training-form

Please note that the department is still accepting the older version of Approved Vocational Training Forms (B, D, E etc).

  1. Retrospective Module Completion

Provided the experience that is being claimed towards Module completion falls within Training Time that has been or will be accredited - including retrospective accreditation - it is acceptable to be used for Module completion.

For example a trainee with UK paediatric experience could have it recognised towards the Paediatric Module provided it occurred during training which has been retrospectively accredited to their Training Time.

Trainees who need to "mark time" can complete Modules even though not accruing additional Training Time – e.g. a trainee who has not yet passed the Primary Exam, but who has spent more than two years in Basic Training, remains in BTY2 for as long as is necessary and can continue to complete Modules.

For more information on retrospective module completion please refer to:

http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/assessor-requests/overview#retrospectice-module-completion

Since the introduction of the revised FANZCA program in 2004 there has been no time limit applied to Training Time - previously there was the "ten year rule".
