3. Changes to the Royal College of Anaesthetists Training Program and Regulation 15.11.3 (2007)
The following recommendations have been adopted in response to recent changes to the training program of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
For training undertaken after 1 August 2007:
- Recognition of up to 24 months Training Time may be granted retrospectively under Regulation 15.11.1 (2007) to Trainees who have competed RCA Training Levels 1 & 2 and who possess the RCA Basic Level Training Certificate. Trainees who completed RCA Basic Level Training in less than 24 months may have recognition of the actual time completed.
- Trainees who have spent time in RCA approved Basic Level appointments but did not complete Basic Level Training, may have recognition of the actual time competed in these appointments under Regulation 15.11.1 (2007).
As a result Regulation 15.11.3 (2007) has been amended. Please refer to the following link: http://www.anzca.edu.au/resources/regulations/regulation-15.html

http://www.anzca.edu.au/resources/professional-documents/professional-standards/pdfs/PS45.PDF
Draft Professional Document : Guidelines for the Safe Administration of Injectable Drugs in Anaesthesia – Prof Alan Merry
This document had been brought to August Council for discussion and has been amended in light of that discussion. It will have a different lead author appointed and will subsequently be circulated to regions for input.
Development of a New ANZCA Policy Document on Guidelines for Accrediting Retrieval Services – A/Prof Kate Leslie and Dr Alastair McGeorge
The Training Accreditation Committee embarked upon a strategic process earlier this year. An area of concern was the supporting documentation for inspection and accreditation of retrieval services. The draft process was approved by TAC on 17 October 2008. The people identified to be part of the “Expert Group” are Drs Alastair McGeorge, Steuart Henderson, Forbes Bennett and Neil Ballard.
5. Admission to Fellowship
Please note that early submission of final AVT Forms documenting completion of your Advanced Training Year (ATY) 3 will not be accepted.
Any AVT Forms sent to the College before the completion date of 60 months training time will be returned to the trainee.
Upon completion of all training requirements, you are required to complete an application for Fellowship Form, which can be found on the College website.
http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/trainee-forms/fellowship-by-examination-form
During the months of January and February, there will be a number of opportunities for trainees who complete their training to be admitted to Fellowship. Further information about January and February admissions to Fellowship will be available in next month’s Trainee Newsletter.
8. Amendment to Module 12 Assessment
From January 2009, the on-line self-assessment for Module 12 will be increased from 40 to 42 questions. The additional questions reflect the addition of informed financial consent (IFC) to the curriculum. IFC is an important aspect of the consent process for privately insured patients. ANZCA are grateful to the ASA for their assistance in supplying a set of selected questions from which the new questions could be selected. The pass mark for the Module 12 assessment will remain at 75%. All other components of and processes for the assessment will remain unchanged.
As the College will be closed from midday on 23rd December 2008 until 5th January 2008, in practice this means that anyone who applies for registration for Module 12 on or after 23rd December 2008 will be assigned the new test.
Please send any enquiries via email to: training@anzca.edu.au
