Candidate statement

When you cast your vote for ANZCA Council, what are you voting for?
 
You are deciding the makeup of ANZCA’s Company Board which manages the CEO and sets the strategic direction of our college while also providing oversight (governance, compliance and financial). Councillors are Company Directors who are legally required to act in ANZCA’s best interest.
 
I bring the following knowledge and skills to the ANZCA Board;

  • 11 years Board experience in various health sectors
  • Qualified Company Director (GAICD)
  • 8 years leading ANZCA’s Perioperative Medicine project
  • 28 years clinical experience, including appointments in both anaesthesia and intensive care, in rural and urban hospitals, and in both the public and private sectors
  • Past and present ANZCA roles; Treasurer, ASM Convenor, Queensland Regional Committee Chair, Indigenous Health Chair, Perioperative Medicine Steering Committee Chair, Diploma of Rural Generalist Anaesthesia development, Executive Education Management, Finance and Risk Management, CPD, SIMG assessor and TAC inspector.

 
The focus of my energy is to further develop the specialty of perioperative medicine and improve equity of health care to marginalised members of our community.
 
I offer integrity, compassion and a deep commitment to serve ANZCA and FPM Fellows, Trainees and SIMGs.

Current and previous service on ANZCA committees and other roles

Within ANZCA, Sean has convened multiple conferences, including the 2009 ANZCA ASM in Cairns.

He joined the Qld Regional Committee in 2007 and became Chair in 2012.

He has served the ANZCA Board (Council) since 2014 and worked numerous committees:

  • Continuing Professional Development.
  • Finance and Risk Management (as Treasurer)
  • Executive Education Management.
  • Indigenous Health (Chair)
  • Perioperative Medicine Steering Committee (Chair).
He is an experienced assessor of International Medical Graduate Specialists and an accreditation inspector for the Training and Assessment Committee.

Past and/or current appointments in other relevant professional organisations

Sean has led the Senior Medical Staff Association in Cairns before being appointed to the Board of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

Sean has a deep understanding of large health systems and the challenges of resource allocation.

He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is mid-way through a Masters of Health Management with the Queensland University of Technology.
