Dr Mark Hamilton

Clinical lead for vascular, endovascular and renal access surgery, NT

Dr Mark Hamilton is the clinical lead for vascular, endovascular and renal access surgery in the Northern Territory, and has been the sole vascular surgeon in the NT since 2014. Prior to this he was a staff specialist vascular surgeon in Hobart for a brief period of time, and before that at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide. He began his consultant practice in New Zealand at Waikato Hospital.

Prior to embarking on general and subsequently vascular surgery training, he spent a period of time working in anaesthesia and ICU and is to this day a closet anaesthetic groupie, with a very active interest in anaesthesia, and perioperative medicine as it applies to vascular surgery patients in particular. While acknowledging his position at the very top of the dunning Kruger curve, he believes that having an insight into the scientific process, art and craft of anaesthesia has given him a more thoughtful and pragmatic approach to managing and assessing risk in his patients.
