Associate Professor Ross Kerridge is an anaesthetist at John Hunter Hospital, and teaches at the University of Newcastle. From 1989, he led the establishment of the “Perioperative System” model of care for elective surgery, which is now the generally accepted model of elective surgical patient care in Australia, and has been adapted internationally. He has attended numerous conferences and meetings, but feels there is no substitute for seeing what really happens “at the clinical coalface”. He has clinically visited more than 150 hospitals in twenty countries. Ross strongly believes that developing a multidisciplinary perioperative model of care is the key to better patient care and improving the health system generally.
