Dr Jeremy Rossaak

Jeremy Rossaak is a consultant upper gastrointestinal and pancreatico-biliary surgeon at Tauranga Hospital, New Zealand. He completed his medical training in South Africa before moving to New Zealand where he undertook surgical training. He was the Lister Fellow in Glasgow specialising in pancreatic surgery.

Jeremy competed his PhD on the genetics of abdominal aortic aneurysms and continues to publish regularly with a strong interest in patient experience. He is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland and enjoys teaching medical students especially about IV fluids. He is chairman of the AoNZ Training Committee in General Surgery.

One of his main areas of work, and passions is family gastric cancer. He feels privileged to be working in a collaborative way with the affected whānau to achieve more patient centred care and better outcomes. The lessons learned there are implemented in his practices with all his patients.

In recent years Jeremy has become interested in how mindful medicine can help improve patient care and reduce physician burnout. To that end he completed an advanced teacher program in mindful practice in medicine through the University of Rochester.

In his spare time he enjoys photography, travel (COVID permitting) and walking his dog along the beach.
