Associate Professor Colin MacArthur

 

Director of General and Acute Care Medicine

Dr MacArthur trained initially as a cardiologist. He worked in medical administration and general management of health services from the early 1980s until 2003. He was General Manager of Liverpool Health Service for 10 years in the 1990s, during which time the Hospital was developed as a major tertiary hospital.

He returned to clinical work in 2003 as a geriatrician at Liverpool Hospital. In 2009 he also took on the role of Director of the Medical Assessment Unit; and in 2018 re-established a full General Medicine service. He now works full-time as a general physician and as Director of General and Acute Care Medicine.

Major interests are in efficient systems for management of emergency medical patients in acute hospitals, medico-legal issues, care of the elderly and use of IT in hospital care.
