2022 Emerging Leaders Conference

The college is invested in developing the leadership capabilities of our future leaders. The Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) brings together new fellows from a diverse range of backgrounds, and offers three days of dynamic content presented by anaesthesia and pain medicine leaders.

The 2022 ELC is going virtual

The ANZCA Council and FPM Board met in February and after considering all possibilities and potential permutations, we have reluctantly decided that the 2022 Perth ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), FPM Symposium and Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) will proceed as virtual events.

This is deeply disappointing for us all, particularly at this stage of the pandemic, but we believe adapting the three meetings to a virtual format is in the best interests of the safety of the public, fellows, specialist international medical graduates, trainees and college staff. You can read more here.

We have prepared some frequently asked questions (FAQs) for invited delegates to address any queries you may have. We also invited some of our 2021 ELC delegates to share their experiences attending the first virtual ELC. Read about their experiences here

The theme is “Reflect Evolve Achieve”. Leaders require a broad range of skills to be truly effective. The sessions planned are designed to enhance these skills and challenge thoughts about leadership. Applications are invited from fellows in all training regions. Applications have now closed for the 2022 ELC.

What we're looking for in successful applicants

Special emphasis is placed on fostering current and future leaders in anaesthesia and pain medicine, to encourage new fellow engagement, and to strengthen relationships between new fellows from different regions. The college is committed to equal opportunity and encourages applications from a broad diversity of new fellows. This includes, gender, race, ethnicity and geography.

Am I eligible to apply?

We are inviting all fellows within the first five years* of fellowship and who are attending the ASM, to apply to represent their regional or national committee of ANZCA or FPM at the ELC. Fellows must have received their fellowship prior to the applications closing date. Applicants must attend the ASM for a minimum of two days if selected to attend the ELC. The successful applicants must register to attend the ASM by close of "early-bird", and if this has not taken place, the ASM and Events Planning Committee will review the applicant’s eligibility and may withdraw the application allowing another representative from their region to attend.

Fellows who were in their last year of eligibility to apply to attend in 2021 are invited to apply to attend the 2022 ELC. Fellows who were invited to attend the 2021 ELC but couldn’t make it can apply for special consideration.

How do I apply?

If you wish to apply, please submit your completed application form along with your curriculum vitae to the conference organiser by email.

Applications for the 2023 ELC will open late 2022.
