Dr Andrew Purcell

Dr Andy Purcell is an anaesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist from Drogheda, Ireland. He was recently appointed as a consultant in anaesthesiology and pain medicine in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Cork, Ireland. He is a UCD graduate (2014) who completed his Anaesthesiology training with the CAI in 2021. His pain medicine subspecialty training was undertaken with the Faculty of Pain Medicine, CAI. He obtained fellowship status with the FPM in 2022. Before undertaking his medical degree Andy worked as a clinical pharmacist having completed his BSc (Pharmacy) in TCD in 2008. He worked in various roles in this capacity in both Ireland and the UK, including a period as an addiction services pharmacist in Mountjoy Prison, a maximum-security prison in Dublin and the largest methadone clinic in the state.
