Associate Professor Greta Palmer

Associate Professor Greta Palmer

FANZCA, FFPMANZCA Victoria

Greta is a University of Melbourne graduate (1991) and is an Anaesthetist and Specialist Pain Medicine Physician (FFPMANZCA 2001).

She works at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s (RCH) and Royal Melbourne Hospitals. She has been RCH’s Deputy Head of the Children’s Pain Management Service since 2001 and Supervisor of Pain Training. She is an Associate Professor with the University of Melbourne, a Research Associate with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and a Faculty of Pain Medicine examiner.

She studied the first edition of the APM:SE for the FPM examination, has been a contributor for the second and third editions and an editor of the Paediatric subsection for the fourth and this 5th edition.

Greta’s areas of clinical interests are acute, subacute and chronic evidence based and holistic pain management. She is supportive of pain management training and education within hospitals and the wider community. Her research interest/publications are pharmacokinetics, post-surgical and chronic pain in children.

She broke her left arm while editing the fourth edition and her right arm (twice) while editing the fifth edition and was more worried about the non-backed up laptop that flew out of the bike basket into the intersection than her wrist.

Her twins and husband think the fifth edition front covers are the best yet!
