Richard is an anaesthetist at Westmead Hospital and Clinical Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine at the University of Sydney. His clinical interests include acute and cancer pain, and anaesthesia for vascular and colorectal surgery.

He has been a contributor to APMSE since the first edition in 1998. His research interests cover clinical trials involving the impact of sleep in the perioperative period. He has been busy during COVID as an advisor the NSW Ministry of Health regarding anaesthesia and surgery.

He has a keen interest in medication safety and heads the Westmead Medication Safety Committee, and is the deputy chair of the local health district’s Drug Committee. Previously he has been head of research and deputy head in the department of anaesthesia. 

When not working he is planning his next marathon and time with his grandchildren.
