2023 Australia-Asia-Pacific ERAS+ conference

We take great pleasure in inviting you to attend and participate in the Australia-Asia-Pacific ERAS+ Conference from 26-29 October 2023 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne, Australia.

The meeting combines two meetings into one: Prehabilitation and ERAS. The first one and a half days will be dedicated toward prehabilitation (addressing patient-related modifiable risk), and the second one and a half days will be dedicated toward ERAS (reducing variability in clinical care), thereby forming the interdependent ERAS+ that strives to improve patient outcomes after surgery.

This easily accessible meeting aims to provide shared learning across this region of the world, with opportunity for interaction with perioperative clinicians, including anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, and allied health practitioners from Australia and Asia-Pacific countries, and to leverage international expertise in prehabilitation and ERAS from Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

The program will be interactive: plenary lectures, pro/con debates, and breakout sessions.

The meeting will also host three Master Class Workshops on Thursday (26 October) morning before the conference. These include a primer workshop in cardiopulmonary exercise testing, an ERAS educational course, and a wound healing workshop.

Our program hosts several prominent speakers, including:

  • International experts in Prehabilitation: Professor Mike Grocott, Professor Sandy Jack (UK), Dr John Moore, and A/Professor Malcolm West (UK), and Professor Ismail Gögenur (Denmark), and Professor Bernhard Riedel and Dr Hilmy Ismail (Australia).
  • International experts in ERAS: Dr Hans de Boer (ERAS President, Holland), Dr Ketan Dhatarayia (UK), Dr Kwang Yeong How and Dr Vera Lim (Singapore), Professor Olle Ljunqvist (Sweden), Professor Greg Nelson (Canada).
  • Expertise from Asia-Pacific: Professor Aoyama (Japan), Dr Shu Lin Guo (Taiwan), Professor Verut Lohsiriwat (Thailand), and Dr Marianna Sioson (Philippines).
  • Australian Surgical Expertise in Value-Based Health Care: Professor David Watters from Safer Care Victoria, Christobel Saunders, AO, James Stuart Chair of Surgery, University of Melbourne.
  • State government and hospital executive expertise: Ms Ellen Rawstron (NSW), Professor Ben Thomson and Ms Naomi Bromley (Vic), and Professor Shelley Dolan (Hospital Executive).
  • Frontline Clinicians (allied health, medical, nursing): Who are willing to share their expertise on implementing and delivering high-quality Prehabilitation and ERAS.

We’re committed to reducing the environmental impact of the symposium. We are incorporating a holistic approach that includes but is not restricted to, areas such as reducing written materials and reducing the use of plastics and nonbiodegradable materials..

We look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne for a meeting with an outstanding scientific and workshop program from leading local and international medical practitioners.

Sincerely,

Local Convenors:

Continuing professional development (CPD)

Transitioning to the new 2023 CPD program
We recognise your continuing professional development (CPD) has needed to pivot in the past few years in response to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Your resilience, innovation and dedication to professional development was clearly demonstrated with your ability to upskill to support your patients and yourselves. This innovation extends to the in-person and virtual offerings at the 2023 Australia Asia Pacific ERAS+ conference.

Updated 2023 CPD program
The Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) have changed their registration and recertification requirements. So that you continue to meet the updated requirements, the ANZCA and FPM CPD Program will adapt from the start of 2023. Full details are available on our dedicated CPD page.

Fellows and CPD participants that have transitioned to the new annual CPD program will note CPD values as ‘2023 CPD’ in the below program. This identifies the CPD category/sub-category, activity and hours, in line with the updated program.

For example, 2023 CPD: Knowledge and skills – short format learning – 1.5 hours.

Transitioning from the 2014 CPD program
Given our unique triennial structure, the transition to the new annual CPD program has been staggered, with 2021-2023 and 2022-2024 trienniums in 2023 still under the 2014 CPD program in 2023.

Fellows and CPD participants are still in a triennium (2021-2023 and 2022-2024) will note CPD values as ‘2014 CPD’. This identifies the CPD category, activity and credits.

For example, 2014 CPD: Knowledge and skills – short format learning at two credits per hour.

Attendance in CPD portfolio by October 2023
Participants of the ANZCA and FPM CPD Program will automatically have their attendance auto populated to their CPD portfolio in October 2023.

Not a participant of the ANZCA and FPM CPD Program?
If you’re not participating in our CPD program, please check with your respective college/provider regarding your CPD classifications. Post-event, you may request an electronic certificate of attendance for CPD evidence from the ANZCA events team.
