2023 Obstetric Anaesthesia SIG satellite meeting

On behalf of the Obstetric Anaesthesia Special Interest Group (SIG) we are delighted to invite you to our next meeting, ‘Challenges and choices in obstetric anaesthesia’, to be held in Sydney from 3-4 May 2023. This is a satellite meeting to the ANZCA ASM taking place at the same venue - the Sydney International Convention Centre (ICC) - from 5-9 May.

Program now available! Registrations open on Wednesday 7 December 2022.

We aim to provide a high quality, content-rich and impactful meeting that will disseminate new concepts, knowledge and best practice through lectures, case presentations, panel discussions, research sharing, and debate. Drawing on the knowledge and experience of assembled delegates, an expert group of international and local specialists will share contemporary insights in how to best navigate a range of challenging conditions and situations encountered in the obstetric setting.

Keynote international speakers include Dr Nuala Lucas, Northwick Park Hospital, London, UK, President-elect of the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association (OAA), and Associate Professor Lawrence Tsen, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, United States, and former President of the Society for Obstetric Anaesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). Both bring a wealth of clinical and research experience and expertise, and they look forward to meeting and engaging with delegates.

Local expert presenters and faculty include Dr Allan Cyna (Adelaide), Professor Alicia Dennis (Melbourne) and Professor Michael Paech (Perth).

The scientific program is broad-ranging and will include presentations, panel discussions and debate on a range of topics including failed neuraxial block, communication challenges, medico-legal pitfalls, and contemporary management of the obstetric general anaesthetic. New knowledge and innovations in the specialty recently published in scientific journals will be shared in a ‘What’s hot?’ session, and current research findings will be presented in the ‘Michael Paech Research and Innovation Prize session’ along with a prize awarded for the best submission.

There will be a welcome reception held in the HCI area at ICC Sydney on the first evening of the meeting for delegates and our sponsors to catch up, re-connect and share a drink. On Thursday evening, there will be a harbour cruise from Darling Harbour to the Deckhouse at Woolwich Bay to enjoy a substantial cocktail reception style dinner overlooking the stunning views of Sydney Harbour.

We look forward to seeing you in Sydney!
