2020 Perioperative Medicine SIG virtual meeting

After having to cancel both our Perioperative Medicine SIG satellite meeting in Perth and our face to face annual meeting this year, it is my great pleasure to announce the inaugural virtual Perioperative SIG meeting: “All about the team”, on Saturday 10 October 2020. With an increasingly complex patient surgical population, a safe perioperative journey with improved patient outcomes demands a team effort and the content of this year’s virtual meeting reflects this nicely.

We have a suite of excellent pre-recorded talks by national and international renowned speakers, covering topics from big picture Perioperative Care around the world, to perioperative research, perioperative care in specific patient populations like the elderly, obese and obstetric patients to the added value from perioperative allied health input.

The virtual day will run like the usual face to face meeting with each themed sessions followed by a realtime live virtual panel. You’ll be able to send in questions you’d like the panel to answer just like in the usual meeting. We’d like to encourage all delegates to get together with a group of colleagues/friends, depending on COVID19 restrictions in your area, at someone’s house or a small auditorium, to watch the full day’s meeting of pre-recorded talks and live panels. All you need is internet access, and a good screen! Organise some food, coffee/tea/wine, whatever works so we can recreate some of the collegiality and real feel of a face to face meeting. We would love for delegates to upload a snap of their surroundings where they are ‘attending the virtual meeting’ to social media under #VirtualPeriSIG20.

I look forward to having you join me at this year’s Perioperative SIG virtual meeting.
